  1. Was pre-approved and applied. That was a few days ago and STILL waiting on "verification of ID". Is this a normal thing with them to take a while or am I just lucky??

  2. I love the idea of this card but I’m thinking of just doing the Robinhood card at 3% back on everything and buying btc with the rewards.

  3. I got approved for this card over a week ago but can’t complete the application because there isn’t a crypto reward to select. Just says error. Been waiting to hear back from their support team but so far it’s been crickets. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. Do not use Gemini they are shutting down people’s accounts and Stealing their money!!!!!
    Scammers

  5. It sounds like this card is inferior to the Savor One, especially if the Savor One is paired with something else excellent to cover that gas category, such as the Citi Costco card for the Costco shoppers out there, or the custom cash for everyone else. If those two are paired with the venture x, it’s not even close.

  6. I had the Gemini credit card for almost a year, so I’m speaking from recent experience in this post. The Gemini CC is a total disaster!! FOR YOUR OWN SANITY, DO NOT GET THE GEMINI CC FOR SEVERAL REASONS!!!

If you use web bill pay through your financial institution, Gemini makes it a nightmare to use. First, when setting up payments in web bill pay from your financial institution, Gemini makes you use an obscure, 28-digit number from your paper CC statement (which you can only view digitally on their website, after you would’ve had to set up your web bill pay), instead of using your CC number like every other CC company. You can only find this out by getting a late payment fee and interest charges on your statement. This is because Gemini won’t do ACH transfers from your financial institution, but instead forces them to physically mail a paper check for payment. When calling customer support, they will tell you that the processing of your payment was delayed because you set up your web bill pay with your CC number, which delayed their ability to process it on time. So, after they send your complaint to their review department they will tell you the late fee and the interest fee are "good charges" and will not be refunded. When you question where it’s written that you should’ve used the random 28-digit number when setting up web bill pay, the girl from Manila simply tells you she cannot help you with that and offers to submit another review request. It’s like Gemini is setting you up to make a late payment on purpose and lose your grace period for two months (more on that later).

Most financial institutions will mail your payment checks 10-14 days prior to the due date, but with Gemini payments they recommend setting your due date at least three weeks in advance. (So much for a grace period.) This is because if your check arrives on your due date (or even a few days early it seems), Gemini holds it until the payment date and then begins processing them at 5pm on that day. So, if they don’t get to your check that day, YOU paid late. Gemini customer support (a girl from Manila) says they don’t log the date your payment check is received, so they can verify you paid on time. They just wait until the due date on your account to begin processing your check. Then, once you have a late payment, you lose your grace period for the next two months or until Gemini randomly decides your account is back in good standing (this decision/time frame is still vague). Gemini’s payment system is convoluted and seems to be set up to get you into a loop of paying late. The only way out is to pay through their website each month, giving them access to your bank account.

I pay my CC bills in full every month to avoid ever paying interest; Gemini seems to not like this at all and seems determined to get CC interest out of their customers one way or another. One of the last months I still used this ridiculous CC, I was concerned the paper check from my financial institution wouldn’t make it to Gemini extra early due to a holiday. I made the full payment electronically through their website, well before the due date and figured the paper check would just be a double payment that would be applied to the next month. I even received the payment confirmation from their website, for the electronic payment. However, I was still charged a late fee and interest charges for the month since the paper check "supposedly" arrived late. When I called customer support and talked to another girl from Manila, I told her I made the payment early through their website so there was no late payment and I wanted the late fee and interest charges refunded. She said she totally understands my frustration but couldn’t help me and would submit a complaint request. When I finally received an email from Gemini, they completely ignored the early digital payment through their website. Instead, they only focused on the paper check arriving late and said that it had arrived late so the late fee and interest charges were "good charges" and would not be refunded – case closed. There is no way to reply to these emails and no way to call anyone other than the customer support girls from Manila. They are very courteous, but they cannot forward you to any supervisors. Basically, Gemini customer support is one of the most frustrating and maddening things you will ever deal with in an entire lifetime.

Another issue of concern is the way Gemini issues your crypto rewards. Instead of issuing them at the end of the month and averaging the cost of your crypto reward, they log each and ever transaction as a gain to your account on their Gemini exchange, which is where your rewards are paid out. If you use your CC for every little purchase you make, so you can get the max rewards, then this amounts to hundreds or thousands of transactions on the Gemini exchange each year. What I found out when filing crypto taxes with all of the major crypto tax software companies, is they charge in tiers; i.e., the more transactions you made during the year, the higher their fee. This includes mining, staking, trading, CC rewards, etc. The higher tier fee just because of the huge number of Gemini transactions can wipe out most of your CC crypto gains, simply because of the way Gemini issues your rewards to their own exchange. Gemini could average your monthly rewards based on which coin you choose to be rewarded in and issue you one monthly reward, like other CC companies do, so you would only have twelve CC rewards transactions per year on their exchange. Instead, they strap you with hundreds or thousands of transactions to report to the IRS, which means you are paying hundreds of dollars for the higher tiers when downloading your transactions to any crypto tax software.

And yes, all CC crypto rewards are taxable events that require reporting to the IRS. Rewards earned in points through non-crypto CC’s are not, even when used to pay for airline tickets, hotels, rental cars, cash towards your CC bill, etc. Lesson learned…
