LOVE this video! I got in the first category meaning 1k light use for business and entrepreneur stuff. The Zenbook was what I was excited for but was so disappointed about the glossy comment. I bought an Asus in 2017 that I’m still using. So brand loyalty and they’ve treated me right, but this had a matte screen. I can never go back now. Zero cares about touch screen either. Any good matte recommendations?

Three months ago I got the Legion Pro 7 2023 (AMD) with an RTX 4080 for 2100 euros in Finland. I know it still sounds expensive but for this place it was a bargain, super happy with it.

Although this is mostly true, there are actually 5000 series laptops that are better spec’d and cheaper than some 4000 series laptops.
Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI 16" OLED 165Hz Intel Core Ultra 9 RTX 5070Ti, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD for $1799. Upgradable RAM and SSD. With a freaking OLED and a 5070 Ti…with 32GB RAM that’s not soldered…this is prolly the best deal I’ve found (at Best Buy).
To juxtapose, there is a Lenovo Legion 7i with 32GB RAM and a 4070 for $1850, and it was $1999 a few days ago (Best Buy). Many such cases.
B&H had a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with a 4090 for about $2599, which was a pretty good deal. It’s gone now but they have a 4080 variant for around $2299 i think. They also have an MSI Vector with a 4080 for $1899 and a 4090 variant for $2399.
ASUS Zephyrus G14 with 32GB and 5070 Ti, with AMD Ryzen 9 AI 370 for $2199, which isn’t bad tbh. The only thing that sucks is all of the new 5K laptops that have AMDs new AI chips are still only using the 370, which they used last year, and it’s basically at the bottom of the tier list from that line of CPUs. There isn’t one laptop using the S-tier 395 variant, which I’m really disappointed to see.
I want a 5K series laptop with the new AMD Ryzen 9 AI Max+ 395.
Im tempted to get the new HP Zbook G1a because it has the 395 with up to 128GB unified memory and you can allocate up to 75% of your system memory to VRAM. The APU on the 395 is close to being on par with a 4060. The ability to reallocate system memory to VRAM in real-time is amazing, especially for running LLMs locally, and if we could just have this CPU paired with a 5070 Ti or higher…omg lol.
I’m waiting on the Acer to drop, best bang:buck.

Laptops are far more expensive than building a custom desktop PC, which can perform way better. The funny thing is, you’re not even getting all of what you want in the laptop as you would building the custom desktop. And the only thing you’re being offered really is portability. This is ridiculous.
I really wonder what kind of social environment this guy grew up in that allowed him to form all these weird vocal inflections and hand movements without conforming to more normal behaviors.
I haven’t seen any of these inflation numbers on Best Buy and just got the new AMD AI chip at the same price I paid for the laptop I got 5 years ago. Maybe those you are looking at are overpriced because anything with AI slapped on it deserved a mark up manufacturers think.

I don’t get it. All the talk about the Snapdragon chips last year was about the great battery life. Did this change?
I don’t really care about mobility. I wish they made a laptop that saves by being bulky, having a battery meant to offer 5 minutes of battery life while it warns you to plug the thing in. They can throw out the webcam, the touch pad. They can make a blast hole to get rid of the heat in the back for all I care. I just want good performance. It has to have a good screen to look at, and a keyboard that’s responsive. However as a budget laptop they can save every last cent on anything that doesn’t affect performance. Don’t have a 144hz screen either. If I was going to play a competitive game like that, I would just buy a PC or go for a non-budget laptop. I want a laptop that’s 600 – 900$ that has power. Asume I want to stream netflix, play 5 youtube videos on silent in the back, have 5 games open, while I render an edited video. My current laptop has something called a cooler booster 5. I call it blast mode myself. It keeps the laptop from melting. The issue I’m currently having is that it occasionally turns off on its own. The machine performed amazing for many years. Especially considering the strain I put on it, and the hours I sometimes had it go. It’s time for a new one. However I can’t find anything that’s "budget", where it’s clear what they saved on, and what was prioritised. I don’t want an all rounder laptop at that price. I want one that performs like a laptop 2x the price, and they can cheap out on anything else. I don’t care if the outside is made out of fire-proof cartboard.
