  1. Cool video. It has become clear to me that i need to power up my inner malnourished nerd to stop being taken advantage of by subscriptions.

  2. Why are people complaining about the suggestion given in this video?
Whatever Linus suggested is not to be taken as gospel/law! You want to use cloud? go ahead. Linus does not want to use cloud? Let him so.
I have a NAS setup using the same board but I also have syncing going on between my NAS and OneDrive. So I have faster access to my files locally and have the safety of having a backup on OneDrive too. Before someone starts poking holes in this setup too, I must tell – "this has been working for me for more than 4 years (previously using a NAS based on raspberry pi) and yes I have had a couple of disaster-recoveries too without losing any data".

  3. I hope viewers realize you’re watching an ad. The whole video is just an advertisement for a shitty NAS.

  4. How its possible to have 3 drives full and 4th backing them up? i dont understand thah math, does 4th drive has everything compressed to fit from all? 😀 im maybe dumb 😉

  5. Haven’t view Linus tips for a while. Apparently it is now just a shipping channel for tech toys.

  6. Linuz is no longer in bearded mode and has gone back to being young again. Also this NAS solution is super cool.

  7. What about redundancy and physical safety which are one of the reasons we go for cloud storage? What if you have a short, a physical fire, or breakin?

  8. Cloud is hard to beat, only a few people need that massive amount of storage. If you have Amazon prime, then your entire family has unlimited storage for photos in its original format and a nice app with a bunch of features.

  9. "Stupid" is putting all of your eggs in a single basket. I backup my photos/videos to my NAS and another backup NAS, but then back it up "to the cloud" to not just have it at home in case of a fire. Offsite backups are not a thing of the past for important data, and the cloud storage providers help with that.

  10. Paying for Cloud Storage is Stupid – The title of a video which reinforces the idea that you should keep copies of your data offsite. The benefit of cloud storage is in automated failover with warm secondaries. Not to mention regional copies which greatly increase file serving speeds that grow exponentially in comparison with local storage the further away you are geographically. Having a local NAS is a really good idea, but suggesting that using cloud storage when you could replace it with a NAS is a bit asinine. Ideally, you would keep hot storage in your local NAS with periodic backup to cold storage in the cloud.

  11. With Cloud service you are way safer when it comes to accessing your data and saving it as you’re editing…NAS can fail and you are screwed for a while.
    – No thank you, your advice is kind immature.

  12. I don’t need my Storage to be always running – so can I get a network storage server but have it boot on demand and then sleep again?

  13. Good greif, srsly? Why not tailscale and NextCloud on a SFF x86 based system. I challenge you to a build off. Me with ProxMox on a cheapass used GEN 6 with 32GB RAM running on an i7 at 35 Watts & 3x 2TB 2.5 SSDs- you on a newer CM3588 NAS kit with 4x 1TB NVMe drives. Go ahead, I’ll wait… loser has to pay for a large size poutine for 3 people.

  14. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Is there a video with the details on how to set it up (Like a step by step tech guide)? I have never worked with any ARM devices

  15. This kit is useless, unless you really only want to backup your mobile devices and if so, you don’t need that type of "drives", cause their speed is not needed and also, the NIC is way to slow to really make use of the overall speed that those drives are offering.
In such cases and szenarios, as Raspi NAS system with usual 2,5" SSDS is way more efficient, also offering enough "power" for the thought of tasks …
For everything beyond this usage, a real NAS is the better solution …

And honestly, listening to you, with this high pitch noise, you probably call voice, is really annoying and stressing – why acting like a 57 yr old virgin, telling her 68 yr old cousin about her new vibrator?
Not even my five year old niece is screaming in such high tones …

And the mentioned price for the SSDs is hilarious – as of today, said drives cost about 500 euros for each 4 TB piece … the most affordable are about 225 Euros

  16. Had one media server and two NAS arrays die on me. Lost all my data on the NAS RAID box because the controller died. Just saying that electronics wear out. If you pay a service provider, you are paying them to deal with the hardware.

  17. Does it make sense to buy four SSDs with the same capacity but from different brands for increased reliability?

  18. As someone who had OMV since version 3 there was a Plex plugin to avoid running from a docker container.

  19. "Cloud servers offer scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for businesses. Enjoy high performance and flexibility with ease. Buy Cloud Servers @cloudsls!"

  20. My home (and half of our entire town) was destroyed in a wildfire… The fact it’s all in the cloud is the reason I still have all my son’s baby photos. That’s priceless.

  21. It’s a shame that the networking interface couldn’t be faster, or come in a bonded pair. But I suppose that could increase the cost and/or make it hotter. I suspect we haven’t reached the point where you can run 10gig with passive cooling.
