  1. Depends on where you live. If you live in the US, though luck, prices will only increase, so you either buy now, or pay more for the same later. If you live in Europe, like me, everything is available with plenty of stock and prices are currently dipping below MSRPs. For some products that nobody buys like the rtx5070, there’s already a $60 discount on the MSRP of base models.
EDIT: Actually, I just checked local retailers. The rtx 5070 (Gainward Python III) is $80 under msrp right now with next day delivery or same day in store pickup. An rx 9070 (PowerColor Reaper) can be had for $50 under msrp, 3 day delivery on that one though, no local stock available.

  2. Orrrr…. people could buy a 3080 for like $400, anything it cant handle at 4k, it can with DLSS

  3. I was going to get the Fractal North for my new build, but decided to try the Okinos Cypress 7 instead for $86. So glad I did. These Okinos cases are very over looked. The metal is a bit thin, but the Walnut is genuine. I absolutely love this case and can’t believe it is only $86 on Amazon.

  4. Another thing to watch for is deals on Newegg for the pice of my r5 9600x and a b650 motherboard got 32gb of Corsair ram and a 500gb ssd free as well as getting $10 off each the motherboard and cpu

  5. Just got an AM5 Mobo, RAM, 9800x3D, and some NVMe SSDs… was planning on waiting till around Q3-Q4 this year to do this upgrade, but now prices might actually go up by then with all that’s going on, so just pulled the trigger.

  6. Hi Paul (or anyone else who happens to see this and answer)!

A friend of mine recently got a 9070 to replace his 3060 12gb. At first, he was pretty happy with it, but the more he used it, the more he was let down by the fact that it wasn’t as much of a performance improvement as he thought it would be.

I know he’s got Win 11, a 11600k, 32 gb of DDR 4, and games at 1080p. Is it possible his platform is creating a CPU bottleneck, and he should either get on a new platform like AM5, or upgrade to a 1440p monitor to get more of the performance he paid for? Or is there another reason for minimal gains that could explain his situation?

    Thanks!

  7. All that CHIPS Act $280 billion in tax benefits, loan guarantees and grants. USA punters still get fleeced at the till.

  8. With some minor adjustments I got that base model down to $1275 using a Ryzen 7600 (no difference inn gaming performance vs the X) and was able to add an ID-Cooling cooler for better thermals and noise. I swamped down to an MAXT case and motherboard and dropped the GPU down to a 7800XT. This is still a SOLID 1440 gaming card and next to your build will have performance difference only seen via benchmarks. I also got a better quality PSU.

  9. I thought I’d price up the ‘Mid Price’ PC from last months video for UK prices –
    AMD Ryzen 5 7600 – £207 ($276us)
    MSI PRO B650-S WIFI Motherboard, AM5 – £140 ($186us)
    G.SKILL 32GB DDR5 Flare X5 6000MHz CL36 (2x 16GB) – £79 ($105us)
    Patriot P400 LITE 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 Gen4 x 4 – £133 ($177us)
Phanteks XT Pro ATX Case – £63 ($84us)
    MSI MAG A750BN PCIE 5.0 Power Supply Unit, 750W, 80 PLUS Bronze, PCIe 5.0 – £77 ($102us)
    Total Price – £699 ($930us)
So, as you can see. Even without any new tariffs affecting UK prices, we pay a lot more over here, for the same products.
Edit: Adding in the cheapest RTX 5070 is another £540 ($719us), bring the total to £1,418 or $1,888us.

  10. I had a couple MSIB 650 MORTAR motherboards in my eBay, was looking to buy them 120 bucks apiece they all sold out and now all I’m seeing is upwards of 169… Nice

  11. Going to build a business/mulitmedia class PC for cheap that runs Linux, and just move on to boardgaming/ttrpgs with friends, and start reading novels and doing some long walks in the park.

  12. It is a dumb price. But there will be dumb people who buy it and perpetuate the problem. Its partly their fault. Partly trumps and partly scalpers. But if you buy at scalper prices, your part of the problem.

  13. wanted to build my pc next month but with the tariiff i had to do it this month and had to but a used 3070ti as a stop gap

  14. I’m not sure why but the 9800x3d on Amazon dropped from 479 to 399 in a few days. Amazon canceled 2 of my orders saying the retailer is no longer on Amazon, the retailer being AMD. Really bizarre to me

  15. REMEMBER, Tariffs are on the product COST, not the retail price/MSRP. So saying $55 tariff on a $550 gpu is incorrect. Also, paying a little higher for things isn’t so bad once we get rid of federal income tax, no tax on tips, no capital gains tax, etc. No capital gains tax just passed yesterday – it’s all working.. just hang tight, it’s only been 2.5 months lol

  16. Came in to say PCPartPicker caught a $650 7900XT for me when I went in looking at prices on AMD 8000 series APUs on a build for my wife. My thought was use the APU for now, then look at throwing in a full GPU in a few months if things settle down. But as soon at that card came up at that price, I ordered it right away. I went back to PCPartPicker to flesh out the rest of the build (7900X, B650, etc.) and saw the price field on the GPU go blank about 10 minutes later.

The deals are out there if you can catch them, but you gotta be both quick and lucky!

  17. its a crazy world we live in. Normally I watch these and get jealous of all the cards and stuff you guys have, now I am here in the UK with 9070, 9070XT and nvidia cards all here and at MSRP for the UK. you even have lots of choice with what card you want to buy

  18. Thank you for your comment in the CPU. Might sacrifice the 9800 for the 7800 to save money and divert it to the price of a gpu…

  19. As a business owner/operator, trying to build a PC at the moment of writing this is absolutely ridiculous. GPUs = Yea right. Scalpers are killing the market. ( most skt AM5 ) CPUs = 33% over MSRP. Overall, you nailed it with this video Paul. 👍

  20. If people would hold on upgrades for at least 5 years it would be a nice message to the manufacturers. But just like the late George Carlin said people are compulsive consumers.

  21. Not sure I understand the msrp used 4080S approval, an overpriced new 5070Ti is still a better deal than that; most of the performance for ~100 less (~$900 ones seem common currently, sometimes 830 ones pop up) Still bad prices but better deals nonetheless.

  22. Why yes, all products WILL go up since there’s a tariff on everything coming into the US. Prices might not go up in other countries as AMD, Nvidia, etc… allow Americans to feel the FULL FORCE of tariffs this time around, whereas in 2021 companies distributed costs to other countries to get sales in the US.

  23. As with everything in life, there is never a good time to buy things. A car, a house, a gaming PC. You’ve either got to commit to it and save, looking out for deals along the way or stay away and stick to consoles

  24. Is never a good time to go 4k, even if your game of choice would run well on your gpu right now.. A new triple A in a year or two may not, and you would be at the mercy of the gpu industry even more

  25. with the prices, the small improvements per gen. i feel like i might be sticking with my 13900K and 4090 for quite a white, had it around 2 years now. could still be considered high end even by the 5 year mark 😂

  26. well, it might not be an ideal time but it’s time. got a 9800x3d for 435 off of MSI’s website. only catch was that I had to buy one of their motherboards. 650 USD taxed and shipped… but now i’ve gotta piece it together over a few more months. let’s just hope the economy lasts that long or i’m screwed… we’ll see.
