I Paid $2500 for 5 BROKEN High End Laptops – But Can I Fix Them?! There are two Razor laptops, an HP Spectre, an Acer Nitro 5, and a Lenovo Yoga. I found a variety of problems including software issues, charging issues, keyboard issues, and one of them was crazy dirty inside. I don’t have a ton of experience repairing laptops so it’s fun to challenge myself to figure them out.

  1. Love this stuff. I’ve done low level repairs but never tried a microscope. Interested in an update, and even purchase someday

  2. I had the same Battery Issue. Quick fix from an IT guy, he unistalled Drivers and did system restore from old backup.
he checked my battery voltage as soon as he grabbed the laptop; then he checked AC connector, not even 5 minutes passes he asked me if we could do a system recovery or format PC to leave software Issues aside. he did system recovery, it took about 15 minutes for the PC to Load, and it was fixed!. 😇 he could have charge me for new battery or other expensive parts, I’m happy that there is some honest workers out there.

  3. You have a hard drive problem on your first laptop it is definitely coming to an end as far as the network is concerned you have to turn off the security boot and then install windows.

  4. excellent video. I’m dying to know the specs of those computers, though. You seem to make out better money wise, than when you do consoles. You scored.

  5. wouldn`t an external keyboard help trying, before you buy a new one for the Acer Nitro? 😉

  6. This is why I dont buy brand new stuff especially laptops and smartphone. I’d rather buy last year high ends

  7. Even if the computers are running just fine it’s a good measure to always clean up the internals and replace the thermal paste of them to keep them in good shape

  8. so I just rattled my Lenovo laptop and I found out that there is a screw in it, I have heard it for a long and I want to see the inside of it. The problem is that I am not familiar with computers and I really want to see the inside. Does anyone have tips on fixing the rattle noise?

  9. Nawh imma take away fully my ps4 to my my heat sink I Guarantee is dusty as hell goodluck to me for not breaking my ps4 lol

  10. The first laptop just goes to show how quickly people abandon something as "broken". I once bought an allegedly broken laptop. Only issue was that a RAM bar wasn’t properly set in the slot. That was all it took to "fix" it.

  11. Most of the time you have to install the drivers manually. Ethenet and wifi is a huge one that never has drivers after a windows install.

  12. Couple things I would have done with the yoga: the charge IC was clearly replaced, I would have removed it and properly reseated it, its possible solder is bridged underneath to the ground plane. Next I would have went on VinaFix and got the schematics. That USB-C port is super sus I would have removed it and looked for bridging on the USB C port, it was probably replaced poorly by a tech.

  13. this is very nice. The honesty in repairing, trying other stuff, and finding its not working. Good video!

  14. For the Yoga, that was likely a display unit in a security lock. Those dents might have been caused by the security brackets that hold the laptop to the shelf/table.

  15. Probably the port of the battery that you connect the cable is damaged and doesnt contact with the pins on the board

  16. I get these kinds of buys all the time, I would say 75-80% of the time the actual problem is something stupid like a psp missing a battery pack and said seller being too lazy to get a replacement

  17. in Windows 8, 10 and 11 you can run a "Battery test" by opening a Command prompt box by typing "cmd" in the Start menu and then running the command "powercfg /batteryreport" without the quotation marks

  18. Sad that insurance companies make it easier just to get a new repalcement so for 99% of us fixing it isnt even a consideration

  19. Did you do a follow up video with the sales, costs etc? Really great work. Videos are fantastic, informative & presented really great.

  20. The laptop that you’re still struggling with you can try and reset the SuperIO. Its normally accessed via a pinhole through the back case with a thin paperclip. It presses a tactile button, hold it for 5-10 seconds. Also enter BIOS and see if there is a battery reset option in there. I find it odd that it will indicate charge with not battery attached unless it has another smaller internal one which some laptops do have.

  21. Wow, the big razer has the most poorly designed cooling system I have ever seen. Even acers are better, and cost half.

  22. I had a spectre last year, within a month we had to get a refund, with that money and a bit more saved I got an ROG Strix Scar 15 and I have honestly never been more happy, this laptop I’ve had for more than half a year has never let me down.

  23. I bought a 1060 laptop that was constantly thermal throttling, went to examine the fans and found a similarly thick dust clog to 10:00 in both fans. No wonder.

  24. For being a hardware tech I never seen anyone use so much thermalpaste before. How come you use so much? A spot like the size of a big grain of rice is more then enough.

  25. that first laptop coulda got hit by lightning while it was plugged up im not to smart when it comes to computers but its just a thought…great content btw
